Farm Mauer

General

The farm, consisting of three buildings, dating back to the early 17th century, is part of a small village in the Swiss Emmenthal. The "Stöckli", a small house next to the main farmhouse where the older generation used to live, did not meet with modern living standards. The wooden building is a statemonument with many original details. In 2002 the owners decided to renovate the the ground- and first floor. In the summer of 2005 the backfacade and the first floor will be converted.

the traditional plan with its centrally placed wood stove as main heating is being restaurated. By adding an internal staircase the first floor is accesible from the exterior. Further on a bathroom is added to the first floor.

Restauration of the façade

the main objective of the coversion are the renovation of the façade and the replacement of the floor construction on the ground floor. An original, curved cellar made from natural stone is sited under the building. During construction work this had to be supported by scaffolding due to demolition work on the ground floor. After analysis a concrete floor was casted. The wooden façade has been completely reconstructed. With intensive craftsmanship the carpenter company reconstructed the old stucture, windows and façades in its original shape. The facadecover concist of pinewooden shingels which were individually clamped to the wooden basement.

Similar construction works have been done to the main building. windows have been replaced and an extra living unit has been added to the first floor. Heating is still being provided by a wood stove, which one has to get used to, but it provides in a special atmosphere.
