In the Rotterdam city centre, facing a small river close to the museum park, a housing block of wich every house is a state monument, is sited on the Eendrachtsweg. In 2004 one of these French renaissance styled houses was obtained by a private owner. It was in a delipidated state. The owners have set their goal to reconstruct the building to become their own house.
Next to intensive restauration work, the design is marked by some more substantial interventions. The white plastic cladded extension of the garden façade will be replaced bij a contemporary detailed verandah. On the first floor, the fireplaces will be reconstructed, original ceiling ornaments will be restored as well as the original structure of the floorplan.
Due to the height of the building and the gardens orientation to the easte for most of the day, the garden is placed in shadow. For this reason, a roof terrace will be placed in the saddleback roof. By adding glass panes to the framework girders, light can penetrate the sleeping floor.
