Textile and Dress Museum

The Textile Research Centre is an independent research institute for world dress and textiles
attached to The National Museum of Ethnology, Leiden, the Netherlands.
The collection is currently housed in a depot of the Museum of Ethnology. Over the years the TRC’s collection has grown to such extend that the current depot can hardly cope.
The number of interesting and exceptional pieces has meant that the collection is now of international museum level.

For this reason the institute is now in search of a new location in Leiden to realise a 2000 m2 museum, which will include exhibition spaces, lecture rooms, offices, research areas, storage facilities, a café and a library. The decision of whether to build a new museum or fit it into an existing building will depend on the different conditions, the varying locations on offer. CHNL architects are actively supporting the Textile Research Centre’s efforts by helping to analyse the architectural and urban-planning aspects and sketching scouting plans
