Tuink & Van Avezaath House

General

The house is situated on a free parcel in the project "Het onderdijks" of the Kampen municipality. Having lived in Enchede for 15 years, the clients decided to realise their own house wich would correspond better to their living and working demands.

The design is based on the the clients wishes to live, work and sleep on the groundfloor. Additional sleeping rooms, situated on the first floor offer space to visiting family from the west. The building mainly consists of a two storey, saddleback roofed house, and a mono piched roofed adding, containing sleeping and dwelling spaces. The transversal section is the response to the development plan and the program of demands which provides in a large amount of square metres and a secondary space on the first floor.

As a consequence the living room has a mono pitched ceiling up to 5m. 10. Throug three roofpanes, daylight penetrates the spaces and projects itself on the high wall. The narrow window, rising up to de ceiling emphesises the extra height of the room. Massive wall slices between these windows evoke an almost sacral sence.

The central sited glazed verandah, the splendid oriel pointing south and the monumental staircase are elements which make this house unique.

Materials and details

The house has a calcareous sandstone construction with concrete floors. The facade is erected from brickwork in different patterns (see pictures). The entrance is marked by a distinctively curved surface, cladded by Western Red Cedar. Accents as the kitchen corner window and the oriel roof are emphasised by the use of galvanised steel profiles. The striking, horizontally divided, oriel is located on the south facade.
